Parkinson's Diagnosis
On April 16th, 2025, at 58 years old, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. The news hit hard, but by June 1st I made a promise to myself: I would continue living fully and refuse to let Parkinson’s define my journey.
So I focus on what I can do. For now, I can still swim, bike, run, strength train, and so much more. If I can do it, you can too. So move while you can—and as much as you can. It’s not too late until it truly is.
My goal is to inspire you to take action in your own life—especially when it comes to your health—because health truly is wealth.
In Jimmy V’s 1993 ESPY speech, he said cancer could not touch his mind, his heart, or his soul. Parkinson’s may slow me down, but it will never take my soul.
Turning 60 In Late 2026 And Not Slowing Down
I started running in December 2020 at age 54, on my 100-plus-pound weight-loss journey. People often tell me, “I cannot run.” But remember—it’s about focusing on what you can do, not what you think you can’t.
After finishing my first marathon in 2023, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tackle another. But my goals for 2026 are on a whole new level for me, because real growth happens outside your comfort zone.
I’m working with a triathlon coach and setting my sights on Augusta Ironman 70.3 as my big race for 2026. And I’m using that challenge to fuel something bigger: raising $50,000 for Parkinson’s.
Why triathlon? Simple: The challenge and being out of my comfort zone.
A 70.3 is outside my current comfort zone. It’s 70.3 miles total: a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run. I’m not a strong swimmer, and I’ve even given up on it once or twice since early 2024. But lately, I’m starting to enjoy it—and I feel amazing physically after a good swim. I don’t mind the biking, and running is still my favorite of the three. But truth be told, I’m not great at any of the three.
The Unsteady Show PODCAST
I hope to get a podcast up an running by first quarter 2026. More to come as I figure it all out.
2026 Race Schedule
As of December 2025, I’m still working on my 2026 race schedule. I may add two more Sprints, a 10K and a 10 miler. But here’s what I have so far:
5K in Raleigh NC – January 3rd, 2026
Indoor Triathlon Hampstead NC – January 11th, 2026
Sprint Triathlon New Hill NC – May 30th, 2026
Sprint Triathlon Durham NC – June 17th, 2026
Augusta Ironman 70.3 – September 27th, 2026
Donations Matter
I’m supported in so many different ways. Some people check in on me. Some pray for me. Some help financially by covering race fees, travel costs, and other expenses. And others donate to Parkinson’s because of the work I’m doing.
I’m grateful for every kind of support—but the reality is, financial support makes a significant impact. In October 2025, Kymanox, thanks to CEO and friend, Stephen Perry, donated $10,000 to the local Parkinson’s walk on my behalf. Stephen has committed to another $10,000 toward my $50,000 goal. I’m expecting it 1st quarter 2026.
My mission is to raise both awareness and funds for Parkinson’s—and I can’t do it alone. Any size donation helps. And if you’re not in a position to give financially, you can still make a difference with your time, your voice, and your involvement.
